Recently, Whitney said she had had a long run on MBFFL and hinted she might be done with it soon. Fans wondered what she would do with her life if she weren’t on television anymore. This line of thought got fans thinking about what she did before starring in her own television show.
Before landing her reality TV show, My Big Fat Fabulous Life, Whitney Thore became a viral video star. This video was called “A Fat Girl Dancing”. After that video, news stations asked her to be on their shows, and she find fame as a plus-size dance sensation.
However, been before that video breakout moment, Whitney had a pretty interesting life. Before starring in My Big Fat Fabulous Life, she studied theater at Appalachian State University. After her graduation, she went to Korea and taught English.

Whitney Thore went to South Korea and said she felt a lot of discrimination because of her weight. In fact, she said they spit on her there because of her size. According to Whitney, people assaulted her, cursed at her, and called her “a pig”.
Despite her hardships abroad, she enjoyed her time in South Korea. She taught schoolchildren English. This gave her valuable experience, and she was able to immerse herself in a totally different culture.

Before going to South Korea and even before getting out of high school, Whitney Thore wasn’t a stranger to entertaining people. In 2000, she was accepted into a special program. This program offered a theater summer enrichment program.
Whitney met most of her friends the viewers see on My Big Fat Fabulous Life in the theater. She always wanted to be an entertainer. And some people believe her TLC show is scripted and purely for entertainment. And she admits TV is her job now…
Even though Whitney Thore loved theater, she ended up going with reality TV after a big break. On January 25, 2014, Whitney made the video that went viral and people loved it. She leveraged this fame into TV appearances, and finally landed My Big Fat Fabulous Life, and a book deal.
